Landscape photography, taught in the field
Learn to see the light before it arrives.
I spend most mornings on a ridge somewhere in the Cascades, waiting for the first ten minutes of sun. Northlight Studio is where I teach what those mornings taught me.
Hi, I'm Maren.
I have photographed the high desert and the volcanic peaks of central Oregon for twelve years. My work has run in regional magazines, national park calendars, and on a lot of office walls.
I started teaching because the same questions kept coming up at trailheads. When should I arrive? Why does my sky look grey? How do I keep the foreground sharp? The answers are simpler than most gear forums suggest, and they start with planning around light.
